Medicare Insurance
The program is divided into several parts. Part A is inpatient hospital coverage. Part B is outpatient medical coverage. Both Parts A and B make up Original Medicare.
Part C, also known as Medicare Advantage, is separate from Original Medicare, but still provides the same coverage. However, Part C itself is divided into different plans (HMO, PPO, PFFS, MSA, SNP) and can provide additional coverage for costs related to dental, vision, or hearing services. Some plans may also provide prescription drug coverage.
Part D provides prescription drug coverage. It can be included in a Part C plan as an added benefit, or it can be purchased as a standalone plan with Original Medicare.

What are Medicare Supplements?
Medicare Supplement Plans, or Medigap, help provide coverage for costs that are not covered by Original Medicare, such as coinsurance or deductibles. The supplement plans are labeled as Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, Plan D, Plan F, Plan G, Plan K, Plan L, Plan M, and Plan N.
Each plan has its own coverage for specific costs and services. These plans can also only be used with Original Medicare. You cannot have a Medicare Advantage plan and a Medicare supplement at the same time – it’s an either/or thing.
To enroll in a Medicare Supplement, you must be enrolled in Original Medicare.
